Paving the Way Forward

Introducing the Teacher Taskforce

In March 2023, we launched a call for a 12-member teacher taskforce to participate in the Teach Europe project and help us improve the pedagogical offer on the topics of active citizenship and the European Union. The goal is to create study materials that can help the teaching community across the continent to introduce the topics into the existing curriculum. As part of the Taskforce, teachers will be required to work together, attend training courses and events, and contribute to the development of a series of Learning Scenarios.

We received over 100 applications and selected 6 teachers working in the humanities, 6 teachers of scientific subjects, 6 lower-secondary teachers and 6 upper-secondary teachers. They come from different countries – Romania, Portugal, Malta, Slovakia, Croatia and Lithuania – and countries which have joined the EU at different times. With this selection, we hoped to create as wide as possible a representation of the various perceptions and levels of integration that exist in the Union.

As part of the selection process, we asked the applicants to tell us why they want to join the project. For some, Teach Europe is an opportunity to create added value for both teachers and students not only in their own community but also in other countries. For others, the project is a chance to collaborate with other teachers from across Europe, to improve their own pedagogical practices and examine their approach from a different angle.

We also asked them why they think it is important to talk about the European Union with their students. For some, this was an opportunity to instill a sense of responsibility in their pupils and draw their attention to the duties of active citizenship. Others felt it was important to expand the horizons of their students by discussing the influence of EU-level developments on events in their own countries.

Step 2 of the project foresaw that the 12 selected participants will attend a three-day workshop in the Future Classroom Lab in early May. Curious to find out how it went? Learn the details here.
