Insights from our Launch Event

The Teach Europe launch event took place online on 29 September 2023 inviting policymakers, teachers and schools to reflect upon the importance to talk about the European Union with K12 students. The event also encouraged active and responsible citizenship to shape their future, especially so with the upcoming European Elections in 2024.

At times of heightened Euroscepticism and tense international situation, it is more important than ever to equip educators with the resources they need to address any questions that students may have regarding the EU and their identity; connecting young people across the European Union and beyond to foster voluntary engagement, learning mobility, solidarity, and intercultural understanding. Furthermore, increased understanding about the European Union, its history, institutions, and functioning will equip young first-time voters with the information they need in order to actively and confidently participate in the 2024 European Elections. As of now, there are not many pedagogical resources that teachers can use to educate pupils about what being an EU citizen entails. Teach Europe aims to fill in this gap and to that end, has recruited a 12-member taskforce to collaborate on the development of learning scenarios for different age groups and school subjects.

The participants already had their first face-to-face workshop at the Future Classroom Lab in early May 2023 and are busy working on the development of the pedagogical resources. Discover more about what they do and how they approach their tasks in the next Teach Europe article about their second face-to-face workshop in Brussels.
